By-Product Synergies
Once a company has taken steps to reduce waste and
energy consumption by process integrated measures, it can begin looking
at the value-added prospects for the remaining waste and energy streams.
The principle underlying by-product synergy is that industry wastes can
be used by another user as primary resources. In order to facilitate the
exchange of wastes, businesses need to work together to determine what
kind of waste exists, and what its potential applications are. They can
then be exchanged, sold or passed free of charge between industries,
creating a waste or by-product synergy.
